Intent
At our small mixed-age primary school, we envision a phonics curriculum that provides a solid foundation for every child's literacy journey. Using the Read Write Inc. programme, we are dedicated to fostering a love of reading and writing from an early age, tailored to meet the unique needs of our diverse learners. Our goal is to create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive environment where each child can develop essential phonics skills, build confidence, and achieve literacy success.

Implementation
  1. Foundational Literacy Skills: We aim to instill a strong grasp of phonics as the cornerstone of literacy development. Through Read Write Inc., we provide a structured and systematic approach to teaching phonics that supports pupils in mastering the essential skills of decoding and encoding.

  2. Inclusive Learning: Recognising the diverse needs within our mixed-age classes, we tailor our phonics instruction to ensure that all children, regardless of age or ability, receive the support they need. Differentiated activities and targeted interventions help meet individual learning requirements and foster growth.

  3. Engaging and Effective Instruction: We are committed to delivering phonics lessons that are interactive, enjoyable, and effective. Read Write Inc.'s dynamic and multisensory approach engages pupils in learning through games, songs, and hands-on activities, making phonics instruction both fun and impactful.

  4. Building Confidence and Enjoyment: Our vision is to create a positive and encouraging environment where pupils develop confidence in their reading and writing abilities. By celebrating progress and providing constructive feedback, we help children build a lifelong love for reading and writing.

  5. Progressive Learning Journey: We ensure that phonics instruction is progressive and responsive to pupils' evolving needs. The Read Write Inc. programme's structured progression allows us to support children at various stages of their phonics development, reinforcing and building upon their skills as they advance.

Impact

Through our phonics curriculum, guided by Read Write Inc., we aspire to:

  1. Develop Proficient Readers and Writers: Equip pupils with the phonics skills necessary to decode and encode words confidently, laying the groundwork for fluent reading and effective writing.

  2. Foster a Love of Literacy: Instil a passion for reading and writing by making phonics learning engaging and relevant, encouraging children to explore and enjoy literature.

  3. Support Individual Growth: Address the diverse learning needs within our mixed-age classes, ensuring that every child progresses at their own pace and reaches their full potential.

  4. Create Confident Communicators: Build pupils' confidence in their literacy skills, enabling them to express themselves clearly and creatively through reading and writing.

Our vision for phonics using Read Write Inc. is to provide a robust and nurturing literacy foundation that supports every child's journey towards becoming a confident and enthusiastic reader and writer. By integrating effective phonics instruction into our small, mixed-age classes, we are committed to fostering a positive and successful literacy experience for all our pupils.
